Are you among the skilled professionals and looking to migrate in Australia? Then Australia
skilled occupation list might be beneficial for you if you wait for a bit more!
An updated skilled migration occupation list is published by the Australian Government every
year. It depends on the market demand to fill its shortcomings. This year, the demand is greater
than in previous years according to the QS World Rankings. So, this is the perfect time and
opportunity to pursue a career in Australia.
Australia wants to change its immigration rules to make it easier for skilled workers to come to
the country and become permanent residents.
Despite that, there’s no new policy that has been updated as we are expecting. The new point
test system will be out and obviously that will affect to the occupation list as well. Which
supposedly will be updated as well because the employment sponsored visa is no longer
required as a skill migration occupation list anymore.
The federal Labor government said they will change the current method of selecting skilled
migrants, known as the points test, to find people with the right skills that the Australian
economy requires in the future.
One of the changes that affected the moving population a lot is the increase in the Temporary
Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) for skilled workers on a temporary visa. Under the
standard Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) visa it will increase from AUD53,900 to AUD70,000.
This is the first time it has gone up in ten years. By the end of 2023, all temporary skilled
workers on the (TSS) short term stream will be able to apply for permanent residency.
However, there are many thoughts and rumors about the 491 applications that want to know if
this change in income will impact their application, as well as the 191 visa applications that will
come later.
Australia thinks that the current system for people moving to the country is not good enough to
bring in more skilled workers. Therefore, better way to identify skills shortages, including the
removal of, or broader consolidation of the current set of occupation lists will be coming soon.
After waiting for a long time, Home Affairs Minister, Clare O’Neil announced several most
important skilled visa changes based on a complete Review of the Migration System. Most of
the changes will make it simpler for well-paid experienced worker to come to Australia and
start working.
The announcements included:
3 Tiers of Temporary Skilled Migration, changes to minimum wages for skilled visa holders
(TSMIT), the removal of Labour Market Testing (LMT) and Skilled Occupation Lists
All temporary skilled visa holders to have a pathway to Permanent Residence
Greater mobility for employer-sponsored visa holders to switch employers
Employer sponsorship costs to be paid monthly
Independent skilled migration points test system to be overhauled
So, if you are confused, is your profession on the occupation list or not? What points would you
get? Which visa should you apply for? Just hold on and let the new update be out.
Meanwhile, you can utilize this time by choosing which state would be better for you to ensure
a prospective career, lifestyle, salary and permanent residency opportunity.
More population means more competition for jobs. Despite being a metro city, the Australian
Capital Territory, Western Australia and other regional areas would be comparatively better
than cities like New South Wales and Victoria.
Regional cities offer a relaxing lifestyle away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Also,
living in areas will give you five extra points in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s
points test for skilled migration visa applications.
