Australia PR Score: Points-Based System for Immigration
Australia makes it easier for talented people to immigrate by using a point-based system to determine applicants’ eligibility. Although the point system initially appears to be confusing, it is actually quite simple.
When applying for a subclass 189 (Skilled Independent visa) or a subclass 190 (Skilled Nominated visa), the student must meet the following requirements:

- Have a job-specific skill assessment.

Lists of Skilled Occupations (SOL): The applicant must select a profession from one of the following categories of skilled occupations. The list includes the professions now approved for immigration to Australia. The lists’ occupations are periodically updated to reflect shifts in the Australian labor market. The SOL is divided into three categories:
- List of Long-Term and Medium-Term Strategic Skills
- Skilled Occupation List for the Short Term
- List of Regional Occupations
- Points needed to qualify for a PR visa
Independent skilled visa (subclass 189): This visa is only available to invited foreign employees who meet the qualifications set forth by the Australian government. Anywhere in Australia is a legal place for the holder of a subclass 189 visa to live and work permanently. No sponsor or nominee is required. Only after receiving an official invitation can they submit an application for this visa. To apply, they must be younger than 45 years old.
The skilled nominated visa (subclass 190): Enables nominated skilled people to live, work, and study permanently in any state or territory in Australia. Similar to the subclass 189, the students must have received an invitation to apply in order to apply for the subclass 190.
