The current list of professions that qualify for various visa classes is called the Skilled Occupation List. People who meet all other conditions and are qualified to work in or train in an authorized skilled occupation in Australia may be eligible for visas.

• STSOL: Short Term Skilled Occupation List.

The Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) includes a set of skilled occupations determined by the Department of Employment (DoE) and the Department of Home Affairs (formerly DIBP) and is reviewed every six months.

• ROL: Regional Occupation List.

The Regional Occupation List (ROL) contains 77 occupations. This list is prescribed in Legislative Instrument LIN 19/051 and is relevant to persons who:

The eligibility conditions for an Australia PR visa are as follows:

Points determine your eligibility for a PR visa. Holders must score at least 65 points under the point’s grid. The below table describes the different criteria for scoring points:

Consideration of age

Applicants are given scores according to the age category they are in at the time of application submission. Candidates who are between the ages of 25 and 32 score highly. People over the age of 45 are not given any points.

Linguistic proficiency in English

It is a requirement for applicants using the Skill Select point system to take the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test. Those who are citizens of native English-speaking countries and who have earned a postsecondary degree from a university whose primary language is English and whose bachelor’s degree is comparable to an Australian bachelor’s degree are exempt from taking an English language competence test. However, all applicants need to take the IELTS test in order to receive points for having proficient English language skills.

Academic qualifications

The applicant’s highest degree or degree equivalent receives points under this category. For instance, if a candidate has both a bachelor’s degree and a doctorate, the doctorate will be given more points. Additionally, the degree needs to be acknowledged and confirmed throughout the skills assessment period and must relate to the applicant’s designated profession.

Experience at Work

For work experience in a skilled occupation, either inside or outside of Australia, applicants are given points. The aforementioned experience must be obtained within ten years and be related to the nominated occupation on Australia’s Skilled Occupations List. For skilled employment experience obtained in Australia or abroad, different points are given. A maximum of 20 points, combining points from both tables, will be given for skilled employment.

Australian credentials

Candidates who received their studies from an Australian institution of higher learning receive 5 points. However, the degree must have been obtained from an Australian institution when the student was a citizen of Australia, and the duration of the degree must be at least two years at a time.

Local language proficiency

If entrants possess interpreter/translator level language proficiency in any of Australia’s community languages, they will receive 5 points. The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) of Australia requires these abilities in order to recognize translators and interpreters.

Skills and certifications for a spouse or partner

The talents of the applicant’s spouse or partner, who is listed on the visa application but is not an Australian citizen or resident, will also be factored into the final score. The spouse or partner must satisfy the Australian General Skilled Migration’s fundamental age, nominated employment, and English language competency standards in order to receive an additional 5 points.

An academic year.

If an applicant has completed a professional year in Australia during the previous four years, they can also get five points. This Professional Year is an intentionally structured professional development program that combines on-the-job training and formal education. However, the applicant’s profession must be included in this professional year.

Nomination and funding (Subclass 491 and Subclass 190 only)

Points are given to applicants for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Subclass 491 visa if they are sponsored by an Australian Territory, State, or Government.
