The Planning Levels for the Migration Program for 2022–2023 have been released by the Australian Government. The announced immigration quota is 160,000 in total. In contrast to last year’s strategy, the skilled immigration stream has received more attention. The number of reserved spots that the government had last year—77,300—has been decreased to 50,000 this year. In contrast, the entire limit for the skilled immigration stream was 79,600 last year, while the new quota enables 109,900 applicants.

There will be 160,000 spaces available in the three categories of skill, family, and special eligibility under the 2022–23 Migration Program. A total of 160,000 spots will be available for Australian immigration year 2022–2023, with 109,900 spots available for skilled migration, 50,000 spots for family migration, and 100 spots for special eligibility.

• 109,900 positions are available in the skill stream, which aims to increase the economy’s capacity for production and address skill shortages in the labor market, particularly in regional Australia.
• Family (50,000 slots): Partner visas make up the majority of this stream, which allows Australians to reunite with family members who live abroad and gives them access to citizenship.
• Partner visas will be issued on a demand-driven basis between 2022 and 2023 to encourage family reunion. This will speed up the processing of numerous applications for Partner visas.
• For planning purposes, 40,500 Partner visas are projected for the years 2022–2023, however it should be noted that there is no cap on this projection.
• 100 slots are available in the Special Eligibility stream, which includes visas for people in unique situations, such as Australian permanent residents who are returning home after time spent abroad.
